Conservatories are well known and appreciated for their large windows, but not so much when it comes to cleaning the glass! And yet it's good to know that clean windows let more light into the conservatory and the house, so regular maintenance is essential to limit darkening and maintain light transmission. To make sure that cleaning your windows isn't a chore or puts paid to any desire to enlarge your home with a conservatory, read on for some simple, effective advice that will make your life easier and get you back on track with window cleaning.

Use a microfibre sponge cloth for spotless windows

To get rid of fingerprints, raindrops, dust and other unsightly marks, use a microfibre cloth dampened with hot soapy water to clean the windows from top to bottom, using circular movements in a figure-of-eight pattern. Lint-free and soft, the microfibre cloth will clean without leaving streaks.

What should you do if your windows are very dirty?

First, mix some washing-up liquid or black soap with hot water and clean the windows with a soft sponge or squeegee. This method has the advantage of removing the dirty, greasy film from the glass. Then rinse with clean water and wipe with a clean, lint-free cloth for a sparkling result! Finish off by wiping the windows with a soft cloth to speed up the drying process and remove any residual traces; the final touch for clean, transparent windows.

White vinegar and newspaper, 2 natural and economical allies

White vinegar is well known and encouraged for regular household maintenance, but it's also ideal for window cleaning. Economical, ecological, natural and easy to use, white vinegar mixed with warm water and applied to a microfibre sponge will clean your windows brilliantly.

Stop throwing away your used newspapers! Newsprint contains a special ink that removes marks from windows. Take a sheet of newspaper, crumple it up and wet it with lukewarm water. Then rub the marks into the glass and dry them with another dry sheet. The result: clean windows and a bright conservatory.

Clean when it's cloudy!

Choosing the right time will do you a lot of good and protect you from unnecessary cleaning! There's an instinctive tendency to wait for spring cleaning and sunny days to do the windows. Not a good idea! In fact, water that evaporates too quickly will leave traces, making cleaning pointless in the end. The same applies if you try to clean on a rainy day: the raindrops that fall will leave marks on the glass. As you can see, the ideal time for cleaning is when it's overcast! So don't hesitate to take a look at the weather forecast before embarking on the window cleaning operation!

Avoid abrasive products that could damage the seals

A final tip to optimise cleaning: avoid the use of abrasive detergents or scrubbing sponges, which could scratch the glass and damage the seals and peripheral components.
