Post-free carport
What use is a carport without a post?
A classic carport can be either attached to the house or free-standing. In both cases, the posts form an integral part of the structure. They support the roof. In the first case, the pillars are fixed parallel to the beam attached to the front. In the case of a free-standing carport, they are what make the shelter independent.
As you will have realised, a postless carport cannot stand alone. It will have to be attached to a wall. Furthermore, as a carport is designed to cover a large area (at least 12 m²), it would be risky to attach a suspended shelter of this size to a single wall.
The tailor-made solution is to install a carport between two walls. If you have an annexe, a shed or a garden shed a few metres from your house, it is possible to install a fixing beam on each front in order to suspend a roof that will protect your vehicle from the elements.

Roof filling
Various roofing materials are available. You will like glass for its total transparency. Then consider a blackout solution. You will appreciate polycarbonate for its lower cost compared to glass and its lightness, or blackout panels for their opacity and therefore better insulation qualities.

What are the limits of a post-free aluminium carport?
-
The postless carport, although suitable for small spaces, has its limitations. Not only in its construction (if only the front of your house supports the carport, there is a high risk that it will not bear its weight), but also in the ability to manoeuvre between the two walls. So it is possible, but under certain conditions.
L’option XL : Détournez le carport classique pour l’adapter à votre espace !
Since it is complicated to transform the existing environment, it is better to shape what is not yet built! This is where the magic of the aluminium carport with offset posts lies: combining elegance and adaptability.
Traditionally, the posts of a carport are positioned in the corners of the gutters, at the four corners of the shelter. The XL option offered by Akena allows the pillars to be offset in depth or at the front. This means that the construction can be adapted to the surroundings of your home. The existing masonry is no longer an obstacle as it is bypassed. In addition, the overhanging roof offers great manoeuvrability and unrivalled protection for your vehicle.
Another important point: thanks to the XL option, you can choose between a freestanding or lean-to carport. This is not the case with a post-free carport.
And if you want more privacy or greater protection from the elements, we've thought of everything! The carport with offset posts can be enhanced with privacy screens. These fixed aluminium slats are added laterally on one or more sides. Whether solid, slotted or mixed, they are available in many colours, from classic anthracite grey to warm wood tones.
