Installation of a carport

Installing a carport is quick and easy, but you need to follow a precise procedure to ensure the best possible protection and efficiency. Here's how.

What is a carport?

A carport is an alternative to a solid garage. So, even if you don't have to do any structural work, you still need to follow certain procedures to ensure a stable structure, lasting protection and effective security.

Akena carports are aluminium structures with two or four posts, depending on the floor area. They have a pitched or flat roof, depending on the model chosen.

The wall bracket

If you want a carport that backs onto a wall, it's important to determine the nature of the support: plaster, stone, timber frame, external insulation, etc., to determine the appropriate fixing (wall and floor fixing for a back-to-floor carport, or floor fixing only with an island carport in the case of a timber frame or externally insulated house).

You also need to identify any obstacles that could prevent or jeopardise the implementation of the project: downpipes, external lighting, drainage outlets, etc., so that they can be integrated into the project.

A must: your floor

Before installing your carport, we need to make sure that you have a flat surface. If it's concrete, that's optimal, to guarantee quality installation and resistance to the vagaries of the weather, such as rain, hail or snow.

So, for a carport, mounting is authorised on concrete blocks, on a rough concrete slab with a minimum thickness of 10 cm, or even a tiled terrace on a concrete slab with a minimum thickness of 10 cm. Paving stones on sand, earth, grass and tarmac are not permitted.

The posts must not be fixed to a terrace made of paving stones laid on sand, thin screed or natural soil. They must be installed on a concrete slab, concrete blocks or a low wall.

If you opt for the sunbreaker option, the ground support must be smooth and level.

Some advice

We advise you to avoid installing your carport near trees, to avoid complicated roof cleaning and to prevent leaves from stagnating in the structure.
