Technical characteristics of the exclusive ELITE 70 range by AKENA
AKENA is a manufacturer and installer of custom-made, all-aluminium conservatories, pergolas, carports and poolhouses. AKENA is also a range manufacturer, which means that its design office designs and develops its own aluminium profiles for manufacturing.
By owning its own profiles, the 70 ELITE range, AKENA covers the entire process. The NF 70 mm ELITE profiles, all with thermal breaks, are used exclusively for the brand's products. The technical characteristics are therefore specific and well-designed to provide maximum ease of use.
Powder-coated all-aluminium structure
All our conservatories are made of aluminium with a 6060 T5 alloy (aluminium, magnesium, silicon); this trio is suitable for the metal joinery industry because it is recognised for its strength, malleability and heat treatment. The profiles are powder coated, i.e. cleaned, then covered with a layer of lacquer (120 microns thick) and oven-baked at a temperature of 190°C; a process designed to protect the aluminium of your conservatory. We use powder-coated aluminium profiles labelled QUALICOAT Class 1 / Class 2, QUALIMARINE and QUALILAQUAGE, certifications indicating that the aluminium used is of superior quality and anti-corrosion.
Thermal belt
EXCLUSIVE AKENA assembly system, the ground support is an RPTH (with thermal break) aluminium profile installed level around the perimeter of the conservatory. It ensures the stability of the structure, its waterproofing to the ground, the drainage of rainwater and a thermal barrier.
Strong wall hanger
The wall attachment called a flashing measures 150 mm; it allows the conservatory to be securely fixed against the front of your house and guarantees the robustness of the roof. Equipped with a triple watertight system, flashing + flashing seal + water discharge, the attachment counteracts any infiltration. The roof of our conservatories is CSTB certified (AKENA_ISOL TH 2025 certificate).
The gutter and rainwater pipe
The gutter is primarily used to collect rainwater from the roof of your conservatory, which is then drained away through the 80 mm diameter downpipes. It also, and above all, ensures the transition between the roof and the front. AKENA has made this connection watertight, resistant and insulating thanks to its assembly system with triple sealing consisting of the protective profile at the bottom of the slope + storm seal + insulating foam. This complex thus allows for the continuity of the Air-Water-Wind seals and the control of thermal bridges.
NF Elite profile
AKENA has moved from a range of 50 mm thick profiles to the 70 mm thick ELITE range. It is therefore enlarging the thermal break of its profiles to improve thermal performance and meet RT 2012 standards. All the profiles used have a thermal break, from the floor to the roof, equipped with a fibreglass-reinforced polyamide strip. The wider the strip, the lower the conduction between the exterior and the interior and the more insulating the profile.
Thus, joinery frames with a thickness of 70 mm combined with 28 mm insulating glazing have a more efficient thermal performance compared to 50 mm thick joinery with 24 mm glazing.
Aluminium carpentry
The sliding frame is the part of the joinery that is most vulnerable to air and water. For this reason, the AKENA design office has focused its efforts on improving the thermal performance of its sliding windows. The sliding frame is made up of a 70 mm frame combined with 28 mm glazing for better thermal performance: 25% more insulation*.
In addition, the AKENA sliding frame includes the following innovations to increase the air-water-wind tightness:
The upper cross member is equipped with a PVC thermal shield that eliminates all thermal conduction and therefore all air passage. This assembly is even more interesting on a 3-leaf sliding door where the central rail is simultaneously connected to the outside and the inside.
The side uprights are covered with a hood that creates a new layer of insulation, thus preventing any transmission of hot or cold air and providing excellent airtightness.
The lower crossbar is also made of a thermal shield that eliminates conduction between the rails. It contributes to the evacuation of rainwater thanks to an invisible drainage system integrated into the profile.
Finally, the rail on the ground is shallow, which allows for easy maintenance and compliance with standards for disabled persons or persons with reduced mobility.
Colours & equipment
The choice of colour and equipment is crucial in the design of a conservatory or extension project. Depending on your tastes, the colour of your house or your shutters, the perfect match can be found. In terms of equipment: blackout solutions, lighting... the solutions are numerous. Consult them by clicking below.

Conservatories or extensions, living spaces created for you
What kind of space would you like to create?
Any use or application can be imagined in an AKENA conservatory or extension. A selection of the most common uses is given below.
What material should I choose for my custom-made conservatory?
The choice of materials is essential to maintain consistent temperatures in summer and winter. It will depend on the location of the custom-made conservatory, its orientation and its use. A north-facing conservatory will require more insulating materials, while a south-facing conservatory will require sun-filtering glazing to reduce light and the greenhouse effect.
In terms of structure, one material stands out for its practical and aesthetic qualities: aluminium. 95% of conservatories in France are made of aluminium. This material is strong, does not rust, is resistant to climatic variations and can be lacquered in any colour.
It is essential to use a special range of aluminium conservatories with total thermal break, such as the AKENA 70 range. This range consists of two aluminium profiles separated by a non-conductive seal (or polyamide strip), thus preventing any contact with the outside. It also reduces side effects such as condensation, mould and dirt.

-
What is a conservatory?
-
A conservatory is an additional room attached to the house that can be built with materials such as wood, aluminium or PVC.
At AKENA, like almost all manufacturers in France, we have chosen aluminium, the most resistant and weather-resistant material. Conservatories are designed to offer more space to occupants and provide better ventilation and protection against the elements. Conservatory specialists offer different styles and designs to suit all tastes and budgets, so you can customise your conservatory to suit your personal style. Good thermal insulation also allows homeowners to take full advantage of the comfort offered by this extension to their home, without spending too much on heating. Finally, installing a conservatory is an excellent way to improve the exterior aesthetics as well as the interior comfort of your home.
-
Why choose a conservatory?
-
Conservatories are an excellent option for those looking to add extra space and more light to their home.
Building a conservatory is less expensive than adding a permanent extension, and the materials used are durable and can withstand outdoor weather for years without requiring maintenance or major repairs.
Conservatory owners can enjoy full light and fresh air all year round thanks to the transparent roof offered by the conservatory, even in cold or rainy weather. There are many custom-made styles of conservatory available - choose the one that best suits your current decor by opting for different types of roof fillings, colours and finishes to suit your taste! What's more, if you want to have a pleasant space, a sitting area or even a dining room, you can easily create it thanks to the customised options. Building a conservatory is also quick and simple - meaning your new space will be ready in no time!
-
What are the uses of a conservatory?
-
This practical addition to your home can be used for many occasions and for multiple purposes. It offers an additional room, such as a living room or dining room, and also provides a relaxing outdoor space protected from the elements.
Gardeners will appreciate the benefits of a conservatory, as it allows them to grow their plants and flowers without worrying about the weather outside. Those looking for more space on their terrace or balcony will find this very useful. Another reason to choose a conservatory is its unique ability to provide thermal and acoustic insulation; some even choose to install a full kitchen with barbecue! The conservatory is therefore much more than just a shelter from unwanted insects - it is a practical addition, a truly elegant and durable living space for your home.
-
What styles are there for a conservatory?
-
A conservatory is an additional room to your house that can be designed in many different styles. A classic conservatory will offer elegant and timeless lines, while a contemporary version will bring a more modern look with modern materials such as glass and metal.
For rural or rustic properties, there is a specific style available that is perfectly suited to the exterior decoration. Soft colours blend well with this traditional vision to create a space that is both beautiful and comfortable. What's more, if you opt for a transparent roof for your conservatory, it will be even brighter thanks to the roof and the large glazed doors that usually surround this type of structure. Whatever style of conservatory you choose, it will add an extra touch to your home and provide extra space in which to enjoy the good weather or simply relax.
-
How to organise a space for relaxation or work?
-
Converting this space into a relaxation or work area is an excellent idea for maximising its use.
For a relaxation area, choose comfortable furniture such as sofas, armchairs and coffee tables. Add green plants for a touch of nature and colourful cushions for a warm atmosphere. For a workspace, choose an ergonomic desk, a comfortable chair and practical storage. Make sure you have good natural light and supplement it with desk lamps for darker days. Also consider soundproofing for a calm and productive working environment.
-
A conservatory lounge, is that possible?
-
Transforming this space into a lounge is an excellent idea for creating a convivial and relaxing area.
Opt for comfortable furniture such as sofas, armchairs and poufs. Add coffee tables to put your drinks and snacks on. For a cosy atmosphere, consider soft lighting such as accent lamps and fairy lights. Green plants and colourful cushions will add a touch of freshness and cheerfulness. Don't forget accessories such as rugs, curtains and throws to make the space even more welcoming.
Choosing the right materials for your conservatory
Which material should you choose for your conservatory? Aluminium, wood, PVC or steel? Each has its advantages and disadvantages. Let's find out why aluminium is the ideal material for conservatories.
-
What material should I choose for a conservatory?
-
The most commonly used materials for a conservatory are aluminium, wood, PVC and steel. Wood offers a timeless look and is very easy to work with, but it requires a lot of maintenance.
Aluminium is durable and can be tinted in a variety of colours. It also adds resistance to difficult weather conditions, such as snow or strong winds. PVC conservatories, on the other hand, are not very common in France and do not offer as much resistance to the elements as those made of materials such as aluminium or steel.
The material of choice for the construction of conservatories remains aluminium, recognised for its qualities of resistance to the weather, malleability, design and maintenance.
-
How to choose the ideal equipment?
-
To choose the ideal material for your conservatory, it is important to take several criteria into account.
First of all, think about the aesthetic and the style of your conservatory. Then, consider the durability and maintenance of the materials. Aluminium, for example, is very strong and requires little maintenance. Wood, on the other hand, has a natural charm but requires more care. Finally, consider your budget and the thermal and acoustic performance of the materials. At AKENA, we recommend aluminium for its many advantages.
-
What are the advantages of aluminium for a conservatory?
-
Aluminium is a very popular material for conservatories because it offers a variety of advantages. It is strong and durable and does not rust. Aluminium profiles are available in a variety of colours so that everyone can choose the one that best suits their personal style and exterior decor.
Once installed, an aluminium structure requires almost no maintenance or repair for several decades, making it cost-effective in the long term. In addition, its relatively low weight makes it much easier to handle than other options such as wood or steel; it is usually custom-made to the specific needs of the homeowner without too much investment. Aluminium is therefore an affordable material offering numerous advantages for a conservatory, making it an ideal material.
-
What factors should be considered for maintenance and durability in aluminium?
-
To guarantee the durability of your aluminium conservatory, it is essential to take certain elements into account.
First of all, make sure you choose quality profiles, such as those offered by AKENA, which are designed to withstand the elements and the weather. Then, remember to maintain your conservatory regularly. Although aluminium requires little maintenance, it is recommended that the profiles and glazing be cleaned at least once a year to prevent the accumulation of dirt and dust. Finally, regularly check the condition of the seals and fixings to ensure optimal waterproofing and prevent water infiltration.
-
How can I insulate my conservatory properly?
-
Insulating a conservatory is essential to ensure thermal and acoustic comfort.
There are many solutions for this. First of all, you need to use profiles with a total thermal break, such as those offered by AKENA. Then choose an insulating roof filling so that the heat doesn't escape, and double glazing with a good Uw coefficient. Also favour external protection solutions such as roller shutters, as offered by AKENA. They allow you to gain a few degrees in both winter and summer. Interior blinds can also be installed, but with more limited efficiency.
-
What criteria should be taken into account when insulating a conservatory?
-
To properly insulate your conservatory, it is important to take several criteria into account.
- Choose quality materials for the profiles and glazing.
- Opt for profiles with a thermal break and energy-efficient glazing.
- Think about roof insulation. An insulating roof filling, such as those offered by AKENA, keeps the heat in during winter and the coolness in during summer.
- Don't forget solar protection solutions, such as roller shutters or sunbreakers, to regulate the indoor temperature and improve thermal comfort.

How to make your conservatory safe
-
Securing your conservatory is very important to protect your home and all the property it contains.
For this reason, it is recommended that you install high-performance security systems, such as the four-point locks offered by AKENA or integrated roller shutters that can be closed during a prolonged absence. You can also install an alarm connected to your mobile phone, so that you are immediately warned in the event of a break-in. It is also advisable not to store valuable objects that are visible from the outside, as they are likely to attract malicious attention. Keep the outside garden well maintained and sufficiently lit to deter potential intruders. Finally, have it regularly inspected by a professional specialising in security. How do I heat a conservatory?
-
Heating a conservatory can be very useful for enjoying it all year round. There are several solutions available to you: underfloor heating, electric radiators, a wood or gas stove.
You can also opt for radiant panels on the walls of the conservatory to accumulate the heat produced and gradually warm up your room. A pellet stove can also be installed. However, it must be installed by a qualified professional, as it often requires significant preparatory work. Whichever solution you choose, you are sure to find the one that best suits your conservatory and your budget! And if you would like to find out more, we invite you to read our article about solutions for heating a conservatory.
-
Conservatory in kit form or made to measure?
-
A conservatory, whether it is a kit or custom-made, is an ideal solution for adding space and character to your home. Each option offers distinct advantages, but it can be difficult to decide which would be the best solution for your project.
Ready-made conservatory kits are generally cheaper and easier to install than custom-made models, which means that they are suitable for DIY enthusiasts. However, the limited size of the kits may not be suitable for some larger outdoor spaces. A custom-made conservatory allows you to have a unique product, tailored to your specific needs, without compromising on the design you have in mind. Numerous materials are available for roofs. The choice will be more limited for kit models. A composition with a skylight, for example, seems more complicated to install if you are not an experienced installer. Finally, specialised companies provide you, as an installer, with a legal guarantee of 10 years. This guarantee is not valid if you install your conservatory yourself. You will then only benefit from the product guarantee, which is often only for 2 years.

It is possible to opt for a more economical solution by choosing a kit conservatory, but the end result may be less satisfactory than if a qualified professional is used. To preserve the beauty and durability of your conservatory, regular maintenance is essential. Discover our tips for cleaning and maintaining your aluminium conservatory and extending its lifespan.
-
How do you clean the roof of a conservatory?
-
Cleaning the roof of a conservatory is an important task that must be carried out on a regular basis in order to maintain the beauty and waterproofing of the product.
The first step is to use a sponge or brush to remove moss, lichen and other debris from the roof. Once this is done, it is advisable to use an anti-moss solution to prevent it reappearing. Finally, it is best to check the gutters and the Conservatory's eaves to make sure that no rubbish, dead leaves or any other objects are blocking the rainwater drainage system. Repeat the process once a year and you're done. These are the right reflexes to have to keep a conservatory clean and the materials durable.
-
How do you maintain the windows of a conservatory?
-
Maintaining the windows of a conservatory is very important for its preservation. It is therefore necessary to clean the windows regularly with a suitable product and to use soft cloths so as not to scratch the surface of the glass. All traces of moisture on the frame and rubber seals must be removed. In addition, care should be taken to ensure that the conservatory is well ventilated to prevent the accumulation of damp air or condensation, and only non-abrasive, ammonia-free products should be used.
-
How do you clean the shutters of a conservatory?
-
When cleaning the shutters of your conservatory, the first step is to use a vacuum cleaner to remove dust and debris. Then it is recommended to use a sponge or a soft cloth with warm soapy water to clean all dirty surfaces until they shine like new! Don't forget to rinse well after cleaning, then dry thoroughly with paper towels or dry, clean tea towels. Avoid using harsh chemicals that can damage the plastic materials from which some parts of the shutters are made. A protective coating on the metal parts will prevent rust and other forms of corrosion. Regularly check that all bolts, screws, etc.
-
What factors need to be considered for the maintenance and durability of an aluminium conservatory?
-
To guarantee the durability of your aluminium conservatory, it is essential to choose quality profiles, such as those offered by AKENA, which are weather and time resistant.
Don't forget regular maintenance: clean the profiles and glazing at least once a year to prevent dirt building up. Regularly check the condition of the seals and fixings to ensure optimal waterproofing and prevent water infiltration. At Akena, our technicians adapt to the needs and desires of our customers. Some want to create additional space available in fine weather, while others will choose to enlarge their house, better insulated, potentially open to the house.
It's all a question of the choice of materials and equipment. The profiles that make up the ELITE 70 range created by AKENA are perfectly suited in both cases, conservatory or house extension, with a level of performance unmatched on the market.
On the other hand, in the case of an extension, the level of thermal and acoustic performance of the infills (glazing, roofing) and the solutions related to solar protection (variable tint glazing, roller shutters, sunbreakers, blinds) are essential. We will answer you on all these questions.
