Lean-to or island carport?
Your carport can be positioned against your house with 2 or 3 posts, or as an island with 4 or 6 posts. Here are the different characteristics.
The lean-to carport
This type of carport is installed against a wall, usually one with a door, or nearby, to give direct access to the home. Lean-to carports are available with 2 or 4 posts. At Akena, they have a pitched roof for the covered carport and a flat roof for the flat roof carport. This category of carport has several advantages:
- Installed close to a driveway, your carport means you don't have to walk around in the rain,
- Provides greater security, with the vehicle close to your house,
- You can have a socket or electricity supply next to your carport, ideal for charging an electric car or plugging in any other electrical accessory,
- Provides storage space for your equipment close to your home,
- Bikes can be safely stored or parked,
- A space for relaxing, working or eating can be created over and above the carport's primary use. So being close to the house is much more practical.

The island carport
Unlike a lean-to carport, an island carport is self-supporting. It is not attached to a wall, and stands on 4 or 6 posts. It has many advantages:
- Ideal for motorhomes: the large size of the vehicle does not detract from the landscape if the carport is placed at the bottom of the garden,
- Perfect for large areas of land,
- Allows you to drive around the house without taking up space right next to it,
- Can be installed anywhere, without walls or constraints, on concrete blocks,
- Replaces a garage,
- Becomes an aesthetic addition to your garden
