The fine weather is coming and you feel like getting out your two-wheeler! But where was it parked during the winter season? Bad weather can damage your vehicle, and a two-wheel carport is ideal for parking a motorbike or bicycle outside. Do you have a garage? Is it the right size to store your two-wheeler without the risk of it catching your car? A custom-made carport can be attached to the garage to increase the parking space on your property.

What is a motorcycle carport?

A carport is very similar to a pergola. It shelters vehicles from the elements. Thanks to the carport, your motorbike or bicycle is protected from gusts of wind, frost, snow, falling branches and even UV rays. It cannot be said often enough: the sun's rays are harmful to the bodywork of vehicles, which becomes depigmented after prolonged exposure. Furthermore, parking your two-wheeler under a carport will save you from having to clear the snow piled on top, wipe the water off the saddle or, even worse, get it soaked.

The two types of carports

The carport island

A carport for motorbikes or any other vehicle can be leaned against another building or an island. A lean-to carport is attached to an existing structure, usually the front of the house or garage. It has two posts parallel to the wall, to which a beam is fixed.

The other type of shelter is the free-standing carport. It is freestanding and can be placed anywhere in the garden. Depending on its size, it has four, six or more pillars. Manoeuvring the vehicle is easier because it is not obstructed by a wall.

Why a carport rather than a garage for your 2 wheels?

Whether it is for parking a motorbike, a car or a converted lorry, the carport has many advantages. Here are the main ones:

  • its cost;
  • its ease of access;
  • its many designs;
  • its materials;
  • its options;
  • the construction time.

Building a carport costs less than a garage. It is not enclosed, so there is no need to build a front. However, thanks to the many additional options and elements, a motorcycle carport can be protected from the wind and prying eyes. The addition of aluminium privacy screens provides protection and aesthetics. LED strips or a motion-sensor LED spotlight allow you to park your vehicle with complete peace of mind, even in the middle of the night.

The carport is easy to access, as you don't need to open the garage door to get your vehicle in.

The shapes offered by Akena are sleek and contemporary. This is partly thanks to the materials used. The aluminium and polycarbonate are strong, resistant and blend easily into the landscape of your property. In addition, the variety of colours available allows for total harmony with the walls of your house.

The personalisation of the carport goes far beyond LED lighting and privacy screens. Blackout panels, the addition of electrical sockets or even remote lighting control add a touch of modernity, so that this structure is no longer just a simple shelter!

A customised carport thanks to the privacy screens

Two-wheeled vehicles are increasingly popular means of transport. They are nevertheless vehicles for leisure or for making short journeys. Having a custom-made carport built allows you to shelter your car while keeping a space dedicated to your bicycle, motorbike or scooter. More than just an outdoor motorcycle shelter, it becomes a parking space for your family vehicle.

A small bike carport built in addition to your initial carport will also allow you to store your tools, mobile barbecue or waste bins.

Our fixed slatted privacy screen, like an aluminium screen, divides the carport into compartments. This means you can park your two-wheeler in a dedicated, sheltered space without blocking your car parking space.

The aluminium privacy screens define the space while adding an aesthetic touch. We offer solid and slotted versions. One is completely opaque, while the other allows light to pass through.

You can also install a mixed privacy screen to create your own small bike and motorbike carport. This way, you increase the protection thanks to the lower part made up of solid slats, while maintaining light in the upper part.

Numerous colours are available to create total harmony with the structure of the aluminium carport. We exclusively offer wooden privacy screens, which provide contrast and warmth while maintaining the ease of maintenance of aluminium.

Add electrical sockets to the carport

Among the additional equipment useful when building a carport, we suggest electrical outlets. Ideal for connecting a lawnmower or using your power tools when doing DIY, the electrical outlets installed on your carport can also be used to recharge the battery of your electric bike! Very practical for not getting distracted and using a power outlet in the house.
