Carport maintenance

Aluminium is the material of choice at Akena for the manufacture of conservatories, pergolas and carports. It's not by chance that we've chosen it for all our products. Aluminium has a number of qualities: it's strong, robust, light, long-lasting and requires little maintenance. But it's also very aesthetic, and knows how to enhance your exterior.

Aluminium maintenance

Your aluminium carport doesn't need to be renovated over time: there's no need to repaint it after a certain number of years. However, you should clean it with soapy water once or twice a year, to remove deposits on the aluminium, dust, cobwebs, sand or salt if you're by the sea. These impurities can compromise the appearance of your carport, and ultimately its aesthetic appeal.

How to proceed?

To clean your carport, we recommend that you use quality products that are natural and contain few chemicals, so as not to damage the lacquer. You should also avoid using high-pressure cleaners with too powerful a stream. Instead, use a low-power, lukewarm jet with a neutral pH soap (between 5 and 8), and ideally one that's environmentally friendly. Dry cleaning is absolutely out of the question.

To start with, take a ladder and remove any dead leaves, dust or other debris with a microfibre or soft-bristle broom. To avoid scratching your structure, you'll need to scrub your carport gently, preferably with a smooth, non-abrasive sponge. Then rinse with a low-pressure jet and leave to dry naturally: aluminium is a water-resistant material that dries quickly. We recommend that you clean your carport on a sunny day, to optimise the drying time.
