Pergola price per m2
You've decided to install a pergola on your property. You're wondering how much you should budget for it. First of all, you need to be aware that there are several different types of pergola, and that they are not all equal in terms of price and quality. Let's take a look at the average budget for a pergola, depending on the type.
The average budget for a classic pergola
The price of a pergola varies according to its type and structure. The questions you should ask yourself to get an idea of the budget you need to devote to this adventure could include the following:
- What type of pergola will I be installing? A lean-to or freestanding pergola?
- What surface area will it cover?
- What material should I choose for the structure? What about the roof?
- Will my pergola be fully optional or basic?
- Will I go to a builder for a made-to-measure pergola or will I buy it in kit form?
- Do I need to do any work beforehand?

Are you seeing things a bit more clearly? Let's take a look at the standard prices for a traditional pergola (lean-to or freestanding), depending on the main material used:
- aluminium pergola: from €75 to €600/m² ;
- wooden pergola: from €100 to €400/m²;
- PVC pergola: from €100 to €600/m²;
- wrought iron pergola: from €100 to €600/m².
If you decide to have it installed by a builder, you will need to add the cost of installation, which varies from €50 to several hundred euros. Aluminium pergolas are the most up-to-date. They are also long-lasting, require the least maintenance and offer the most options. Here's a comparison of wall-mounted and freestanding pergolas:
- classic lean-to aluminium pergola: from €75 to €450/m² ;
- free-standing aluminium pergola: from €90 to €600/m².
Island pergolas are a little more expensive. They have the advantage of being able to be installed wherever you like, as they are mounted on four legs.
The bioclimatic pergola: the pergola preferred by our customers
No need to introduce it! With its roof equipped with adjustable slats, the bioclimatic pergola is the darling of Europeans. This special concept means you can enjoy this outdoor space all year round. By taming the climatic conditions, in summer you not only protect yourself from the sun's rays, but also regulate the heat by ventilating as you wish. In winter, you're protected from the elements while still allowing in natural light. Whether free-standing or freestanding, it comes with the same equipment and options.
The slats are manually or motorised (using a remote control or your smartphone)adjusted to the nearest degree. A rain, wind and snow sensor can be installed so that the roof closes automatically.

By taming the elements, you can save energy and cut costs. A bioclimatic pergola leaning against the wall of your house will lower the indoor temperature in summer, reducing the need for air conditioning. In winter, the slightest ray of sunlight will reflect off the walls, saving you a few welcome degrees! To install a made-to-measure bioclimatic pergola, you'll need to pay between €500 and €1,000/m². You can choose the orientation of the slats (horizontal or vertical). You'll also have a whole range of options to make your pergola a comfortable place to live. For example, you can
- the addition of a skylight ;
- an XL roof ;
- motorised LED lighting
- motorised blinds for added privacy;
- adding a bay window...
Of course, having a bioclimatic pergola installed costs money. But buying one is an incomparable long-term investment. From then on, you'll be able to enjoy its benefits all year round!
