All your questions about the carport
-
The advantages of a carport in your garden
-
The garden carport stands out as a versatile and functional solution. This shelter combines robustness to face the natural elements with aesthetics to give charm to your outdoor space. The latter offers a multitude of advantages for your daily life and your home, making it an ideal choice for your design needs:
- A durable and robust structure: the carport is designed to withstand the elements and the test of time, providing reliable protection for your vehicles and your property.
- Minimal maintenance required: its design in durable materials such as aluminium allows for easy and undemanding maintenance, leaving you more time to enjoy your outdoor space.
- An aesthetic shelter: the modern design of the carport adds an elegant touch to your garden, and harmonises with the appearance of your property.
- Reliable protection for your property: whether it is to shelter your cars, motorbikes or bicycles, or to be used as a storage space for your gardening tools, the carport offers reliable protection against the outdoor elements.
- An alternative to a permanent garage: less expensive, carports mean you don't have to embark on complex construction work.
-
One multi-purpose facility for all your needs
-
The carport is not just a garden shed: it can be used in many ways, and can be adapted to meet all your needs!
Parking for cars and other vehicles
Protecting your car and other vehicles is one of the essential functions of a carport. This structure offers a practical and effective solution to protect your vehicles from the vagaries of the weather, whether rain, sun or snow:
- your car;
- your motorhome;
- your two-wheeler;
- your caravan;
- your bicycle;
- your boat.
This way, you avoid wasting time shovelling snow or looking for your car in the rain.
Benefit from additional storage space
The carport is not just for parking your car: it allows you to make efficient use of the covered space to store a variety of equipment! It can be used as a garden shed to store your gardening tools, garden furniture or seasonal equipment.
A carport allows you to free up space inside your house. The protection against bad weather also ensures that your belongings are preserved, ready to be used when you need them.
Using the carport to install garden furniture or a workshop
With the large covered area provided by this structure, you can create a convivial outdoor space even when your vehicle is not there. Why not set up a comfortable and sheltered outdoor seating area under the carport where you can enjoy relaxing moments in the open air?
A carport can also be the ideal place to design an outdoor workshop. You can install your tools and DIY, gardening or artistic equipment there, and give yourself a space dedicated to your passions. By taking advantage of natural light while remaining sheltered from the elements, you benefit from an environment conducive to productivity and creativity.

The aluminium carport: a high-quality, long-lasting product
-
There are various materials available for the construction of this carport. Wood is known for its strength and charm, but it requires regular maintenance to remain effective over time. Metal and steel, modern and economical, have the disadvantage of not being protected against rust.
At Akena, we therefore favour the use of aluminium for the design of our carports. Aluminium has many advantages that make it a preferred choice for the construction of this type of structure.
First of all, its lightness means that you can choose from a range of colours to customise your shelter. Aluminium is also naturally resistant to corrosion, making it suitable for outdoor environments, even in harsh weather conditions.
Designed to last for many years without showing significant signs of wear and tear, aluminium carports provide you with reliable long-term protection, while requiring minimal maintenance.
Finally, they not only offer practical advantages: carports are also appreciated for their aesthetic appearance. Their sleek and contemporary design blends harmoniously into different styles of exterior design, allowing it to blend in perfectly with your entire property.

Preparing the construction project
Before you start building your carport, it is important to prepare your project carefully. Akena will help you choose the ideal location and determine the size and style of carport that best suits your needs. In addition to the materials and the type of installation (self-supporting or lean-to), it is essential to define the size of the structure.
For a motorhome or carport, it is recommended to plan a structure with a surface area of between 12 and 15 square metres, with a width varying from 2.5 to 3 metres, and a length of about 5 metres.
On the other hand, if you have two cars to shelter, it is advisable to opt for a more spacious carport, with an area ranging from 24 to 35 square metres and a width of 5 to 6 metres.
The budget to be planned for a carport
At Akena, all our carports are custom-designed in our workshops in the Vendée, which guarantees a perfect adaptation to your needs.
For a simple aluminium lean-to carport, the average price is around €500 per square metre, including installation. For a free-standing carport, the price is estimated at around €550 per square metre.
If you opt for a large double carport with a lean-to, the average cost is around €770 per square metre, including installation. For a free-standing double carport on posts, the price is around €830 per square metre.
It is important to note that these rates may vary depending on the specific model you choose, as well as the optional equipment you wish to include. Want to make concrete plans? You can already request a quotation from our team of experts!
