The advantages of a conservatory with a glass roof

We can all imagine it, can't we? Sitting comfortably in your conservatory, with a breathtaking view of the sky, whether it's to admire the stars at night or enjoy the natural light during the day. That's the magic of a conservatory with a glass roof or a glass conservatory! But beyond this dreamlike aspect, what are the practical advantages of such a structure?

  • Maximum natural light: the main advantage of a conservatory with a glass roof. You can enjoy the light that brightens up the room and creates a warm and pleasant atmosphere all day long. And more natural light means less need to turn on the lights, which translates into energy savings!
  • A feeling of openness to the outside world: the transparency of the glass gives you the impression of being surrounded by nature, while still being protected from the elements. It's ideal for enjoying your garden all year round, whatever the weather.
  • Undeniable aesthetic appeal: a glass roof adds a touch of elegance and modernity to your home. It is a real asset that adds value to your property.
  • Optimal thermal and acoustic comfort: thanks to technological advances, conservatories with glass roofs now offer excellent thermal and acoustic comfort in both winter and summer. You can therefore enjoy your conservatory in all seasons, without suffering from the heat or the cold.

Your questions about conservatories with glass roofs

What type of glazing should you choose for a glass conservatory?

The choice of glazing is crucial to fully enjoy the benefits of a conservatory with a glass roof.

It is important to choose glazing that offers good thermal insulation, soundproofing, security and light. So, what type of glazing should you choose?

  • Double glazing: this is the minimum requirement for a well-insulated conservatory. Double glazing consists of two panes of glass separated by a layer of air or gas, which slows down the transfer of heat between the outside and inside. At AKENA, we use high-performance double glazing with a low thermal transmission coefficient.
  • Laminated glazing: for optimum safety, we generally recommend laminated glazing. This consists of two sheets of glass bonded together with an ultra-strong, transparent synthetic adhesive film. If the glass breaks, the fragments remain stuck to the film, preventing injury and stopping cold and rain from entering. In addition, laminated glazing offers good acoustic comfort and delays break-in attempts.
  • Variable tint glazing (SageGlass): this is a new generation of glazing that allows you to adjust the amount of light entering the room using a switch. It provides thermal and acoustic insulation and is highly valued for its security and privacy.

How much should you budget for a glass conservatory?

The price of a conservatory with a glass roof depends on many factors, such as the size of the conservatory, the type of glazing chosen, the options and the finishes. For example, the price of the glazing itself varies depending on the size of the glazed doors, the size of the conservatory and the thickness of the glazing. From standard double glazing to solar control glazing, prices can range from €70 to €250 per m², a price that will of course need to be refined according to your project.

At AKENA, we offer custom-made conservatories tailored to your needs and budget. We recommend that you request a free quotation to obtain an accurate estimate of the cost of your project. Our advisors are available to assist you and help you make the best choices.

How do you maintain a conservatory with a glass roof?

With regular maintenance, your conservatory with a glass roof will retain its shine and transparency for many years to come!

Is cleaning the windows of a conservatory a chore? Don't worry: maintaining a conservatory with a glass roof is actually relatively simple. Just clean the windows regularly with soapy water and a soft cloth. You can also use a specific glass cleaning product. For the roof, it is important to regularly remove dead leaves and other debris that can accumulate. You can also clean the roof with a low-pressure water jet.
