How to give a conservatory a makeover?
A conservatory, like any other room in the house, can be given a makeover. Both in terms of its interior decoration and its general appearance. Yes, you can repaint an aluminium conservatory to bring it up to date. Or you can simply refit and redecorate. Take a look at our advice.
How do I prepare an aluminium conservatory for repainting?
Before you start painting, you'll need to prepare your conservatory at least a little.
Clean it thoroughly with acetone or methylated spirits, rubbing with a cloth. If traces of rust have begun to appear, take the opportunity to apply a rust converter.
Gently sand one last time, then clean with soapy water.
Wait until the uprights are completely dry before starting to paint.

How do I repaint an aluminium conservatory?
First of all, you need to choose the right paint for aluminium. It generally comes in the form of an acrylic paint. To choose the colour, check with your local council or co-ownership association beforehand to find out which colours are permitted. In some housing estates, the choice will be restricted. If in doubt, and for greater harmony, opt for a colour similar to that of your shutters, other window jambs or even your gate.
Start by applying a metal undercoat, which will protect the jambs from rust. Then apply the paint in criss-cross strokes to avoid leaving any marks. Immediately clean up any drips or splatters that reach the glass or the floor.
You will probably need two coats to cover the surface completely. Leave to dry for 24 hours between coats.
How do you transform the interior of your conservatory?
If you furnished your conservatory several years ago, it's high time you took a look at the new decorating trends. A few small changes will give you the impression of enjoying a completely new room.

The choice of furniture
Forget the garden furniture you've chosen: indoor furniture in wood and metal will be much more modern.
Rattan furniture is also very fashionable, giving your conservatory a seaside feel.

Thinking about carpets
Lay a wide carpet on the floor, just as you would in your living room. The conservatory will become a living room once again (and you'll be able to walk on it barefoot, even in winter). XXL models are popular, but you can also superimpose different rugs, or place them in different parts of the room. Did you know? At the same time, rugs are very effective at absorbing sound and reducing outside noise.

The little extra
Add lights, with LED garlands and candles. This will create a cosy atmosphere at dusk, without requiring any electrical work.
Place plants at different levels too. This will bring a bit of nature into your home. There's no limit to the number of plants you can install. Follow your desires, taking into account the size of your conservatory.
How can you give an old conservatory a makeover without changing it?
There's no need to go to the trouble of repainting the wall, for example. By decorating it, rather than leaving it bare, you'll create a completely different atmosphere. Hang pictures on it, for example.
Changing the floor of the conservatory is also an option. Here again, opt for the no-work version by hiding it, for example, under a soft covering. This option is quick and easy to install and will transform the whole conservatory in no time at all.
You've got it: giving an old conservatory a makeover doesn't always mean completely transforming it. Renovation is still an option, however, if the doors don't slide properly or the insulation is no longer optimal. It's an opportunity to think more carefully about the look you want for your conservatory.
