It can be placed at its other end on an existing wall (shed, annex or hangar) or be supported by a single post.
In itself, an aluminium carport measuring 5x3 without a post is therefore technically possible. It actually depends on the design and structural engineering of your exterior. Traditional carports use posts to support the roof, but a post-free design would require advanced engineering solutions, such as the use of stronger load-bearing beams and specific fastening techniques to ensure the stability and safety of the structure.

What is the difference between a 5x3 lean-to aluminium carport and a free-standing one?

As the name suggests, a lean-to carport is attached to the front of the house, while a free-standing carport is freestanding.
The 5x3 aluminium lean-to carport is supported by a beam fixed to the front of the house and at least two posts on the opposite side. This configuration offers several advantages:
- The proximity of the house provides greater protection against bad weather, thanks to the adjacent wall.
- By bringing the shelter closer to the house, the safety of the car and its occupants is increased. In some cases, it is even possible to create direct access from the house.
The 5x3 carport is freestanding, supported by four posts that support its roof. This design offers greater installation flexibility, without the need to attach it to a wall of your house or garage.
