The equipment
Various roofing materials are available. You will like glass for its total transparency. Then consider a blackout solution. You will appreciate polycarbonate for its lower cost compared to glass and its lightness, or blackout panels for their opacity and therefore better insulation qualities.

The different types of carports for a house available from AKENA
AKENA offers a wide range of aluminium carports for the home that can be adapted to all needs.

The lean-to carport
Attached to one of your fronts, the lean-to carport optimises the available space while protecting your vehicle. This lean-to carport is supported by a beam fixed to the wall and at least two posts on the opposite side.
Carport attached to garage, carport attached to house, carport between two houses, carport between house and garage... Custom-designed, AKENA carports adapt to your desires and constraints.

The free-standing carport
Independent of the house, the free-standing carport or ‘island’ can be installed wherever you want on the property. It is therefore a completely autonomous structure that allows for great flexibility in terms of its location and design. Versatile, it can be used as a carport, but can also serve as a summer lounge or outdoor storage space.

The double or triple carport
Designed to shelter two or three vehicles, the double carport and the triple carport provide functional and protected parking space. They can be attached to the house or free-standing, with the cars arranged side by side or one behind the other with the 2-car carport in a row.

The flat-roof carport
With its clean, modern lines, the flat-roof carport fits in perfectly with modern houses. Its discretion and elegance also allow it to blend in when installed next to an older house.
All your questions about the carport terrace
-
What are the advantages of a carport for a house?
-
Choosing to install a carport means rethinking your outdoor space with a structure that is both functional and aesthetic. More than just a carport, it optimises the layout of the land and adapts to everyday needs:
- Rain, hail, UV rays, snow... The carport protects your vehicles or equipment from the elements.
- It takes up less space than a garage and fits in more easily with the overall design of a garden or courtyard.
- Having a carport built is less expensive than a garage.
- It is quick to install, requires little maintenance and does not always require planning permission.
- It is multi-purpose and can transform your garden into a real outdoor living space.
- Finally, a house with an integrated carport is both more aesthetically pleasing and practical, which can work in its favour on the property market.
-
What size carport should I choose for my house?
-
To choose the right size of carport, several criteria must be considered: the type and number of vehicles, the space available and the regulations.
- A carport for a single car is generally between 2.5 and 3 metres wide by 5 metres long, i.e. between 12 and 15 m2.
- For two cars or a camper van, the recommended dimensions are 5 to 6 metres wide and about 10 metres long, i.e. between 24 and 35 m2.
- For a carport for two cars in a row, you need to allow 4 metres wide by 10 metres long.
- In addition to the space occupied by the carport, allow at least one metre around the vehicle for manoeuvring.
-
How do you install a carport on a house?
-
For a solid and durable structure, the installation of your carport follows these key steps.
1. Project definition
In the case of a lean-to carport, the nature of the front concerned is decisive (render, stone, wooden frame, external insulation), since it is fixed to the wall and the ground. The free-standing carport is fixed only to the ground.
2. Ground preparation
A stable support is essential to ensure the strength and stability of the carport. There are three possible options:
- on concrete blocks;
- on a rough concrete slab at least 10 cm thick;
- on a tiled terrace on a concrete slab at least 10 cm thick.
Fixings on loose ground (earth, grass, paving stones on sand, tarmac) are not possible.
3. Installation of the carport
Once the ground has been prepared, the posts and the structure are firmly anchored, either to the ground and to the wall for a lean-to carport, or only to the ground for a free-standing carport.
Whether you choose a lean-to or free-standing model, AKENA carports adapt to your needs while adding real value to your home. A practical and aesthetic choice that reveals the full potential of your outdoor space.
