Why install a solar carport?
-
Carports are designed to protect your car or other vehicle from the elements. They are generally installed against the gable end of your house or at the front of your garage, if you have one. They can also be freestanding, as an island structure, at the end of your driveway, for example. A solar carport is specifically equipped with solar panels and micro-inverters, ensuring optimal performance. Thanks to its large roof area, this installation will provide you with a minimum power output of 3 kWp**, which will cover all or part of your electricity needs throughout the year.
Furthermore, our micro-inverters can be equipped with Wi-Fi, allowing you to access your production data in real time via a dedicated app. This way, you can monitor your solar carport's electricity production at any time, offering an added advantage.

How does a solar carport work?
-
Solar panels use solar energy, a free energy source generated by the sun's UV rays. To convert this energy into electricity, a specific installation of photovoltaic panels is required.
Each solar panel is composed of photovoltaic cells that capture sunlight and convert it into direct current (DC). This DC is then directed to a solar micro-inverter, where it is converted into alternating current (AC). Once converted, this current can be sold in part or in full to your energy provider, or fed directly into your home's electrical grid, a process known as self-consumption.

What is a solar carport?
-
A solar carport, also called a photovoltaic carport, is a structure designed to shelter all your vehicles (cars, motorcycles, bicycles, motorhomes, caravans, etc.), but it offers much more. It protects them from the elements while producing green, carbon-free energy. With a roof equipped with at least eight photovoltaic solar panels (approximately 15 m²), the solar carport guarantees a minimum production of 3 kWp.
The solar carport can be installed by attaching it to the house or freestanding, at the back of the garden or at the end of a driveway, depending on your property's layout. Although very common in Northern European countries, it is gaining popularity in our region and offers numerous advantages. The solar carport is an excellent alternative to a closed garage, and when equipped with photovoltaic panels, it actively contributes to reducing your energy bills. Several configurations are available; you can opt for a custom-made carport to suit your specific needs and the size of your vehicles.

What material does AKENA use for the structure of its solar carport?
-
The AKENA Group's solar carport has been specially designed to withstand harsh outdoor weather conditions. It features a powder-coated aluminum structure, certified Qualicoat, Qualimarine, and Qualilaquage Class 2, and comes with a 10-year warranty. Two roofing options are available: 65mm sandwich panels, offering optimal insulation and weatherproofing, with photovoltaic panels mounted on top; or a simpler option specifically designed to accommodate photovoltaic solar panels.
Like other carport models from the brand, the solar carport can be equipped with various enclosure options, such as fixed or sliding privacy screens, blinds, or even glass sliding doors.
-
Does the solar carport come equipped with a socket for charging my car?
-
The solar carport can be equipped with a Wallbox, allowing you to charge your electric car. This charging station is mounted on one of the posts, depending on your installation's configuration. We have chosen to equip our solar carports with the Copper SB Wallbox due to its versatility, reliability, and elegant design.
The Copper SB charger features an integrated Type 2 socket, allowing you to connect both Type 1 and Type 2 vehicles, and therefore charge any electric vehicle. It is controlled via a dedicated app, and its compact and robust design is IK10 certified, guaranteeing water and dust resistance. This provides you with a convenient and efficient charging solution for your electric vehicle.
-
Can a solar carport really reduce my electricity consumption?
-
Indeed, installing a solar carport offers significant advantages in terms of controlling your electricity bill.
For example, in France, an average-sized photovoltaic installation has a capacity of 3 kWp, which corresponds to a production of approximately 3,200 kWh per year. The AKENA Group's solar carport is custom-designed, but its basic configuration includes 8 rooftop photovoltaic panels to guarantee a minimum production of 3 kWp**. The average household consumption varies depending on many factors such as appliances, insulation, the number of people in the household, etc. Therefore, it is difficult to give a precise estimate.
However, if we consider an average consumption of 10,000 kWh per year for a household, with your solar carport configured at 3 kWp, you can achieve savings of approximately 30% per year.
-
How much does a solar carport cost?
-
The cost of a solar carport depends primarily on its size. The larger the roof area, the higher your electricity production will be, which will have a greater impact on controlling your household energy costs. The advantage of a carport equipped with solar panels is that you can recoup your investment. In other words, by adding solar panels to your carport, you can gradually recoup your initial expense through the electricity generated.
-
Are there any subsidies available for a solar carport?
-
Several support schemes are available for households wishing to install photovoltaic solar panels. These include financial aid for installation work, measures promoting self-consumption of your own electricity production, and the possibility of selling all or part of your production back to the grid.
- reduced electricity bills
- reduced VAT
- self-consumption bonuses
- and guaranteed cost per kWh
Installing a solar carport allows you to actively contribute to the energy transition, whether by using the electricity produced for your own consumption and moving towards household self-consumption, or by selling the electricity produced, either partially or in full. All of this can be done without requiring major work on your part. Therefore, installing a solar carport allows you to actively participate in the energy transition and benefit from the advantages offered by available support schemes.
* Installation of photovoltaic panels on a surface area of 15 to 25 m², producing 3 kWp of power
** Electricity production depends on the photovoltaic surface area, exposure, and location.
