Whether traditional or bioclimatic, you can make your pergola unique. By adding optional equipment and accessories, your pergola becomes much more than just a garden shed: it becomes a real living space. It's the ideal place to relax. Evenings are warm and cosy. The outdoors becomes a place of relaxation and well-being. Let's take a look at the essential options for making the most of your pergola.

Shading accessories for pergolas

A pergola is an open space. In general, only the roof provides protection from the elements and the sun's rays. However, equipment and accessories can be used to conceal the pergola, either through the roof or laterally.

The slatted roof of the bioclimatic pergola

The bioclimatic pergola is the ideal solution for creating shade or letting in natural light whenever you want. Its roof with adjustable slats protects you from the sun's rays and bad weather, as well as from too much light at certain times of the day. The slats of the bioclimatic pergola are motorised and can be adjusted manually or automatically.

Covering the roof of a pergola with a tarpaulin or awning

To cover a pergola, you can opt for a tarpaulin. Whether acrylic or microperforated, to provide effective shade it must be resistant to rain, wind and UV rays. The cover must also be strong enough to resist insect attack and possible tearing. It can be removed for winter use and is available in a wide range of colours.

Roofing accessories to conceal a pergola

For the roof, there are two essential elements: the sun breaker and the awning.

  • The sun breaker is placed under the glass or polycarbonate roof of the Pergola. It cuts out the sun's rays and therefore the heat. It can generally be adjusted to suit your light requirements. This solar protection system can be adapted to a wide range of Pergola models;
  • Awnings can be installed on the outside of your pergola. The highly resistant fabric protects against UV rays and regulates heat and light. The motorised horizontal awning opens and closes using a switch or remote control. Just like the indoor parasol.

Curtains: a classic way to hide a pergola

Everyone has blind curtains for their home. They block out the sun and prevent prying eyes from entering the house. But have you ever thought of using them to decorate a pergola? Install large horizontal rods, choose your curtains from a wide range of patterns and colours, and you're done! And if you prefer the light, decorative style of curtains that flutter in the breeze, you can opt for net curtains.

Vertical blinds for a contemporary pergola

In the same spirit, motorised vertical blinds can be added at a later date. These can be used to shade your pergola and give it greater privacy. The side blinds are operated by remote control. They can be totally opaque or slightly translucent.

Home automation under your bioclimatic or traditional pergola!

Modern pergola manufacturers don't skimp on comfort options. Numerous options and extra features are available. Switch on the lights, adjust the heating and enjoy the evening. And for a relaxing evening in the middle of summer, you can even install a misting system.

Here is a non-exhaustive list of accessories and options that you can add to your pergola, whether classic or bioclimatic:

  • LED lighting with spotlights or strips ;
  • heating ;
  • misting system
  • audio system with Bluetooth speakers
  • weather sensors for the retractable slats of the bioclimatic pergola, etc.

All these options can be controlled remotely using a switch, remote control or home automation.

Side walls: an option for a flexible pergola

You may have a choice between an aluminium pergola and a conservatory. Your builder can offer you an extendable pergola. You build your pergola to measure and you always have the option of closing it! You can add one or more windows to close it off completely or leave part of it open. You can also install glazed frames or fixed or sliding transparent panels.

The pergola becomes a conservatory that gives you a new living space.

Aluminium pergola: the choice of colours

The aluminium structures of bioclimatic or traditional pergolas are robust, 100% waterproof and require very little maintenance. What's more, they offer a wide range of equipment options. These include a wide range of colours . Of course, we advise you to choose a pergola colour that blends in with its surroundings and doesn't clash with the design of your home. However, there are many colours to choose from: white, frosted black, beige, anthracite grey and many more - you'll be spoilt for choice!
