How to clean a bioclimatic pergola?
The good news is that AKENA pergolas are easy to live with and require very little maintenance! Here are some simple tips to keep your pergola looking its best!
Maintenance twice a year
Maintenance is based on simple work to be carried out at least twice a year: in spring, before the start of the season, and in autumn, after the summer period. The work consists of :
- Checking the condition of the boards,
- Cleaning the structure and blades to remove dust deposits and delay the formation of permanent dirt,
- Cleaning the gutters to remove leaves, twigs and moss that would prevent rainwater from being collected normally and drained off via the posts.
- Checking the mechanism, such as the motor, jack and drive blade, without greasing,
- Cleaning the fabric if there is an awning.
This regular maintenance is designed to prevent any untimely malfunctions that could damage the pergola and prevent it from operating normally.

Is cleaning with water enough?

Easy cleaning
To clean your bioclimatic pergola, there's no need to invest in abrasive detergents that could damage the structure. Just use a soft sponge and warm, soapy water. A mixture of water and soap or water and washing-up liquid is ideal for cleaning and degreasing aluminium.
To rinse, use clean water; you can use a garden hose with a moderate flow rate. Avoid using high-pressure cleaners, which could alter the quality of the aluminium's lacquer finish.
For awning fabrics, the principle is the same: remove dust with a damp cloth or soft sponge, then leave to dry before refitting the fabric in its case. Regular cleaning is useful , as it helps to compensate for the natural ageing of your aluminium bioclimatic pergola and maintain its attractive appearance. Good maintenance is essential to ensure the safety, functionality and lifespan of your slatted pergola.
